The Kamaitachi is a weasel like creature (or rather, group of creatures) either depicted as carrying a scythe, or with huge scythe-like claws. It travels on whirlwinds, attacking unsuspecting travelers in the mountains with such speed that its true form cannot be seen, with only the deep, but bloodless gashes on its victim's legs as evidence of its appearance.

The Kamaitachi was said to always attack in groups of three - the first would knock the victim down, the second would slash at the victim's flesh and the third would administer medication to stop the bleeding.
