Mokele-mbebe (meaning "one who stops the flow of rivers" in the Lingala language) is one of various names for several huge, river-dwelling animals rumored to exist within the Congo River basin. Most legends describe it as having an elephant-like body and small head on a long neck, giving it the appearance of a typical Sauropod dinosaur.

Oddly, the mokele-mbebe has an unexplained hatred of hippopotamuses, usually killing them on sight, to the point that it's rumored that no hippos will be found in an area where the creature lives.

I actually made it to the half way point?!
Yes, I'm shocked too...

Going to be away for a week so I wanted to get this up before then. I felt like I was obligated to include a classic giant reptilian lake monster of some sort in this series...

I imagine this guy being very slow moving and just sort of sitting around, blending in with the landscape most of the time... to the point of other animals and plants making their homes on its back. Explains why such a large animal would be so hard to find, after all. ;)
