So I was reading about prototype/unreleased Pokemon here:

And I felt like drawing the original G/S starters, because they're actually rather cute!

So here we have:

Happa - the original version of Chikorita, and the only one that looks much like its final version, except for some color differences, the addition of ears and its weird, almost slug-like "legs"

Honoguma - AKA "Pikaflare", and the early version of Cyndaquil. Back in the day the concept art of this guy was being passed around as one of the so-called "Pokegods", and that it was a fire-type evolution of Pikachu (much as Marill was assumed to be a water-type Pika evo), but it was actually the original fire-type starter in the alpha demo version of G/S.

Kurusu - this is a weird one. I thought it was supposed to be a Lapras pre-evo when I first saw it but apparently it was the earliest version of Totodile, being the water starter in the old G/S demo. Still it's adorable, no? I was actually kind of disappointed when G/S finally came out and this guy wasn't in it.

I really want to draw more of these... I always find beta/unused stuff in games to be really interesting and some of those designs are honestly pretty adorable.
